Autocar Honors Volvo Design Head as a “Hero”

Step inside a modern Volvo like the XC90, and you might wonder how you could afford such an opulent car. High quality materials and evocative craftsmanship-- all paying homage to Scandinavian tradition--may look costly, but it’s the new benchmark of design Thomas Ingenlath brought with him when he joined Volvo in 2012. And when you realize that the model you’re looking at is a Momentum T5 (a base model), you might wonder how much better it gets.

Much better. The clean lines, controlled surfaces, and functional shapes you’ll find in both exterior and interior designs of a modern Volvo have led Autocar to award Ingenlath with the “Design Hero” award. That’s pretty apt, considering his team’s stylistic touches have vaulted Volvo to the forefront of luxury buyer’s consciousness. When he accepted the award, Ingenlath personally selected a V90 T5 Inscription to highlight the new standard. Painted Maple Brown with blond and charcoal Nappa leather, genuine walnut wood inlays, panoramic sunroof, and eight-spoke 20-inch wheels, we think he picked wisely.
